| Welcome to Ms. VanderBorght's English Language Arts, Grades 2 and 3 | | A big welcome to the parents and students of my English Language Arts 2nd/3rd Grade Classroom for the 2008-2009 school year!
I am delighted to have your student in my class! I am looking forward to getting to know your child. Perhaps you would like to know a little bit about me as well.
My name is Adrianne VanderBorght and this is my second year teaching at L'Etoile du Nord. My formal education includes a B.A. in French and a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Saint Thomas. I grew up speaking both English and French, as my father is Belgian and my mother is Swedish. Due to my father's work as a civil engineer, I spent my childhood and early adult years living in West Africa and Indonesia, | | Ask your child about Ms. VanderBorght's favorite book, Carmine the Crow. | which is how I developed a deep respect for diverse cultures and languages.
In the coming weeks, we will be studying English spelling and vocabulary and of course reading, writing, and speaking English every day. We will be using the Saint Paul Public School's reading and writing curriculum to increase awareness of vocabulary building, phonics and decoding, comprehension and writing. We will work together as a whole group and also in small groups.
As a class we will be mindful of classroom conduct and we will work together to create a friendly and caring classroom.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children. It is sure to be an active, happy and adventure filled year!
Sincerely,
Adrianne VanderBorght ELA 2nd/3rd Grade
