Our Teacher Assistant: M. Boulakbêche will work with us during Writer's Workshop. Hi! My name is Salah Boulakbeche and this is my second year working with
Mlle Geimer as a classroom assistant in writing. It is going to be an
exciting year working with the students, to hear their stories, to
witness their progress and to see their achievement in writing their
book in French.
I know many of Mlle Geimer's students from summer French Camp. Together, we created many fun memories!
My education includes graduate work in Econometrics, at the University
Richter in Montpellier. My areas of study included micro and
macroeconomics, pure mathematics and advanced statistics.
On a more personal level, I'm French-Tunisian, born in Marseille and I
have lived near the Mediterranean: Tunis, Bastia and Montpellier, most
of my life. My wife Freya, my son Iskander and I live in Minneapolis. I
spend my free time playing with my son.
Our Intern: M. Chapaux will work with us during Writer's Workshop.
Julien Chapaux comes
from Liege, Belgium. He received his Masters in French and Spanish literatures in
2009 from the University of Liege. He is interested in completing another
Masters in criminology. When he heard about the opportunity to come to the United
States to be intern teacher in a French Immersion School, he knew that he
probably couldn’t resist. After a few investigations and reflections, he
accepted the offer and is proud to be now a member of the staff at “L’Etoile
du Nord”. He has love to
sing since he was a kid. He likes listening to music, playing guitar, and he enjoys
volley-ball and sport climbing.
Mlle Monier
Our Intern: Mlle Monier will work with us during Reader's Workshop. My name is Virginie Monier, I am 21 and I live in a residential neighborhood in Pontoise which is an old town in a modern area near Paris (30 minutes by train or car). I have also been living in Paris (5th arrondissement) on my own for two years. I am a High School graduate, and I went one year to College for advertising and business communication. I have been working in a communications agency for one year since graduation.
I was looking for an opportunity to spend time and work in the US to improve my English, when one of my father's friend told me that there could be a possibility in a French immersion programm. I have been living with my family in Pittsburgh, PA for five years between 1990 and 1995. I went to primary school there and it is a great experience for me to take up with my child's life again.
I am the older of three children (we are a family of five). I have a 18 years old sister, who is High School gratuated and takes Art History classes at the University. My young brother is 15, he is in High School and is fond of skate bording . My father is managing a research center for the Air Liquid company and my mother was the housekeeper for many years but she now is a masseuse. We also have two cats and four kittens (for the moment!) at home because I like animals very much.
Moreover, I love shopping and sports ; I have done 12 years of classical danse (from 2 to 14), a bit of swimming, handball and boxing. I also enjoy watching games with my friends or family, especially soccer games ; this is for me a great moment of pleasure!
Working at the LNFI school is very beneficial since it brings me a teaching experience with children. I will also benefit from a significant experience abroad that will enlarge my culture and vision of the world.
Our Teacher Assistant: Mme Harrington will work with us during Math. Our Teacher Assistant: M. Clay will work with us during Reader's Workshop. It all began in rural Georgia, 1974. Since that time, Mr. Clay has had
the opportunity to travel quite often to Germany and France, where a
part of him still remains.
Beforehand, he earned a B.A. in English from
the University of Georgia (a place where most everyone is an R.E.M.
fan) and, then, moved north to Madison. The charm of Wisconsin's
capital city led him to his first career in the publishing industry. A
few years later, he moved further north to Minneapolis. There, he
remained in the field by taking a job at Augsburg Fortress Publishers.
During this time, he began taking night
courses at l'Alliance Française. These classes prepared him for the
offer he couldn't resist. As the French Embassy of D.C. hired him to
use his language skills abroad.
This is Mr. Clay's third year at L'Etoile du Nord.
