Bonjour!

It has truly been an exciting year for me getting to know new staff, parents, and students here at L’Etoile du Nord. I am very happy to be a part of such a great school and welcome the opportunity to work with such a dynamic group of students and parents.

My love for French language and culture began in high school and lead me to earn a B.A. degree in French from St. Olaf College. During my college experience, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France and Dakar, Senegal. My drive to continue learning French and being involved with French culture grew during my trips abroad and has shaped the person I am today. To this day, I crave to discover new places, new people, and new delicacies from around the world! I am a firm believer that your suitcases should always be prepared for the next adventure.

After graduating, I took a bilingual Teacher Assistant position on the island of Réunion, which is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean to the east of Madagascar. During my one-year stay, I taught English to primary students in two different elementary schools. For many of my students, I was the first American they had met. I believe that it was this experience of sharing and discovering each other’s cultures, that I learned how valuable it is to be apart of a bilingual and multicultural community.

Upon my return, I began working for St. Paul Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher Assistant at Webster Elementary Learning Center and enrolled in Hamline University’s Master of Arts in Teaching program. After completing the school year at Webster, I transferred to Mississippi Creative Arts Magnet where I worked in multiple grades and gained many valuable teaching practices. In February of 2008, I was contacted about the new TA position that opened at LNFI, and I jumped at the chance to become apart of the L’Etoile du Nord staff.

Since my arrival to LNFI, I have truly been enriched by the wonderful and diverse community found at L’Etoile du Nord, and am continuously intrigued by the opportunities immersion has to offer to students. Today, I look forward to being apart of LNFI’s multicultural community, creating engaging curriculum, investigating rewarding service-learning projects, and truly making L’Etoile du Nord my home.
